The first two were mostly about artists that established themselves in the 1990’s, and I’m now taking y'all to the early 2000’s to show you the evolution of the Chicago sound.
As I stated before, the Chi was always diverse in its sound, but the 90’s were still dominated by those fast flows and that dark slow jam type sound, as it was the case throughout the midwest.
And as we were settling into a new millenium, a new scene started to emerge in Chicago.
Don’t get it wrong, though! Traxster was still around, actually doing big things, E.C Illa became White Folks and was still as dope, while Twista and Common were getting a second childhood, thanks to the latest hot Chi-town producer/rapper, Kanye West.
Coming out with that munchkin soul sound and giving a new sound to his city, Kanye played his part, inspiring a lot of people around Illinois, and putting some shine on Chi-town youngest generation.
The city had a lot to offer with young MC's like White Boy, Bumpy J, E-Dub the Gangsta, Mikkey or Payroll on the come-up.

This is what you'll get on this third part of our Chi Ill B4 Drill series... One hour of early 2K Chi-town Hip-Hop balancing between O.G's and the then new generation with each their sound and vibe. Let's go!
