Being the first rapper to be jailed over his lyrical content, and having multiples run-ins with the law over the years, isn’t what C-Bo should be remembered for.
If being gangsta and not compromising made him, in part, what he is today, he should, first and foremost, be remembered simply because he is a true indie rap legend.
An O.G, a real one, of that north California independent scene, C-Bo's been on his grind, putting out quality material for over 20+ years, he has collaborated with the best of them, from Tupac to Master P (who he later also beefed with), and other Bay legends like E-40 and Too Short, among a long list of others, while establishing himself and his brand (Westcoast Mafia) along the way.
You can't mention gangsta rap or the Cali independent rap scene without mention this cow-boy, who can also be credited as one of the originators of that mobbin' sound his region his known for.
C-Bo is a west coast hall of famer without a doubt, and if you aren't up on his music or want a good flashback, here is a tribute compilation of a few gems out of his ten first years in the game, from 1993’s Gas Chamber to 2003’s The Mobfather, and every albums in between.
