Being in the news for all the wrong reasons in the past ten years or so, Earl Simmons a.k.a DMX made it for himself difficult to show the world what he really is, a dope MC, probably one of the greatest from his era.
Just to remind y'all that he is indeed a rapper, and a great one at that, I wanted to do a little something about a troubled, but, to me nonetheless a true New York rap icon.
The man who can be credited for putting an end to Puff Daddy/Bad Boy's shiny suits era, DMX was and is always a beast when he is behind a mic.
Aligning himself with some of the greatest like Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem and LL Cool J among others, and going rhyme for rhyme with them, he proved that he belonged in the upper echelon of rap artists, with a few excellent to classic LPs and platinum plaques under his belt as well.
So, let’s forget all the dumb shit for 50 some minutes, and get back to the music with this selection of great tracks from DMX long and tumultuous career.
