RGS Midwest - Michigan Part I

A place of hustlers and musicians, Michigan was always a perfect spot for Hip-Hop and rap.
Indeed, it found great success in the state with rappers coming from everywhere. From Detroit to Flint, Lansing, Grand Rapid, every city had its rappers, with their own thing, even though, a few sounds were more prevalent than others.

More than anything, though, Michigan like it hardcore. It gave us some real rap novelties like I.C.P, dreadlock'd rappers wearing crazy make-up who became more than weirdos by having a strange but strong and loyal cult following to help them become a great independent grind success story.
Michigan is more than just that, though. It's a land where hardcore and horrorcore was taken to another level first by Esham, a pioneer like the regretted MC breed, who were both in very different style true midwest originators on the underground scene.
MI really had a lot going on for the last few decades, and an eclectic scene on top of that, as you had that horror-core thing, but also many more with lot of gangsta rap influenced by the west in the 90's, and some southern inspired stuff later on as well. And you know there is even more to it with what I'd call the Jay Dee school of artists, which I'll come back to later on.

A lot of great music and major indie players came out of Michigan in the 90's and early 00's, and this is what this new series will be about.
Now, let's start with your (re)introduction to it with this first hour dedicated to Michigan rap!
